HOLISTIC COUNSELLING

You’re wondering if holistic counselling is for you. You’ve heard people speaking about the benefits of going to see a counsellor, but you’ve never tried it yourself. You might be at a point where the strategies you’ve tried just aren’t working anymore. You may notice that your way of being in the world is not offering you the outcomes you desire. You might be really stuck and unsure where to go next. There might be something specific on your mind. Ultimately, there are as many reasons to come to counselling as their are people in the world. There is no correct reason.

This is me, What can I do?

I understand, and I want to help you connect to the innermost parts of you and find a new way to proceed. Hi there, my name is Sasha Landis and I am a holistic counsellor in the Inner West of Sydney. I walk beside people as they challenge long-held beliefs, embrace feelings and forge a new and different relationship to self. If you’re ready to take this step together, I’d love to hear from you.

MY APPROACH to holistic counselling

It is my belief that we hold all the answers we will ever need inside our own minds and bodies. Counselling can be an invaluable tool for bringing this inner wisdom forth. My work as a counsellor is client-centred, meaning sessions are client led and follow the needs of the individual. It is sometimes helpful to think of holistic counselling as a gentle and meandering walk through your mind. It is our joint task to get to know you.

It seems to be as if more and more people are searching for holistic counselling and therapy as it offers an approach that incorporates considerations of all elements of a client’s world. In our work together, my mind is always on the mind body connection. Neuroscience tells us that we feel before we think. This means, that counselling that addresses cognition only, is missing out on a key piece of the puzzle - the way we feel. Another important part of holistic counselling to me, is recognising all of the social, political and cultural influences that make up and individual’s world. This means I commit myself to continuously learning, unlearning and understanding the implications of privilege, generational trauma and lived-experience. I believe that much of the human experience of ‘psyche-ache’ can be attributed to environmental factors and that it is deeply significant to recognise these factors when practicing holistically.

In counselling, like any therapy, the primary healing component is the therapeutic relationship. Neuroscience tells us that new neural pathways are always forming in the brain, which means, the capacity to do something differently and to feel differently is a possibility all throughout our lives. As social creatures, we grow and change in relationship with others. It is the connection with a mind that knows itself that gives the brain the best chance of also coming to know itself.

In therapy, I offer a unique space to work through what is going on for you by providing a safe and confidential environment as well as another mind that is equipped to understand yours. Counselling relationships can be as short as a few sessions, or extend into longer term psychotherapy, depending on what you bring and what you are hoping to leave with.

Frequently Asked Questions FOR A holistic COUNSELLOR

what does holistic counselling mean?

I can only speak about what holistic counselling means to me. And to me, it is the acknowledgment and understanding of the multiple planes that make up and individual’s inner world. I think of them as mind and body, cultural, social, political and spiritual. It is the acknowledgement of the constantly moving connection between things are are often made binary in our world; between inside and outside, thoughts and feelings, nature and nurture, self and others.

What are the benefits of holistic counselling?

I believe that all counselling and therapy should be holistic. The benefits begin with feeling understood by your therapist and counsellor and as a multi-faceted being that is always integrating influence. Ultimately, I believe a holistic approach to therapy fosters personal integration and understanding of the self as an ever-evolving system. I also believe viewing things holistically builds a more accepting and understanding community and world.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY?

The main difference that would be relevant to our work together is that counselling in general tends to be shorter term or used to tackle a more specific issue, whereas psychotherapy can last for up to several years. As I am trained in both counselling and psychotherapy, there is huge amount of crossover in the work I do, with the same principles underpinning all of my work.

How Often Do I Need To Attend holistic COUNSELLING?

Ideally, you would attend counselling once a week to establish consistency and a good rhythm in our work together. This should allow us to work as effectively as possible. There is some flexibility around this depending on individual scenarios.
